A. Population

  • The entire group under study, which in the case of an exit poll, would be all the voters who participated in a particular election.

  • Suppose there's a nationwide election and the population would include every voter who casts a ballot on election day. Let's say, there are 1 Million voters.

B. Sample

  • A smaller group selected from the population, ideally representing the larger group as accurately as possible.

  • An exit poll might randomly select several polling stations and interview a number of voters at each to predict the election outcome. Let's Say: 10,000 voters opinions used to predict election results before official count
